Colony. A Colony, established at a technical school in anticipation of petitioning for Charter as an Active Chapter of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity, shall consist of no less than four men qualified for membership in the Fraternity.

Purpose of a Colony. A Colony shall serve as the focus around which an interested group of engineering students prepare to petition for Charter as an Active Chapter of the Fraternity; shall provide for closer ties among its members; shall provide for closer ties with the Fraternity; and shall enhance efforts to establish a Chapter of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity on the campus.

Establishment of a Colony. Upon letter petition, the Supreme Council may grant approval to establish a Colony. The Colony shall be designated as (School) Colony of Sigma Phi Delta. The petition shall include such information as the Grand President shall designate and will include evidence that the local school authorities are favorable toward the petition.

Installation Procedures. A member of the Fraternity designated by the Grand President shall install the members of the Colony, using the Ritual for Formal Pledging. Members of the Colony shall wear the Pledge Pin of the Fraternity but are not authorized to wear other insignia of the Fraternity.

Colony Expansion. The installed Members of the Colony shall formally pledge additional members as the Colony expands. These Members shall have the same rights and privileges as the Charter Colony Members. When the provisions of set forth by the Statutory Code regarding Chartering are met, the Colony shall petition for Charter as an Active Chapter, using the Chapter designation assigned by the Fraternity.

Rights and Privileges. Installed Members of a Colony are not initiated Members of the Fraternity. They shall have the same rights and privileges as a Pledge in any established Active Chapter. They are not subject to the payment of National or Province dues or fees and have no representation in the General or Province Conventions. They shall elect officers, establish By-laws, and may collect Colony dues. There shall be no admission fee for pledging into a Colony.

Activation as a Chapter. It is not required that all Charter Members of a newly chartered Active Chapter be pledged into the Colony. There is no specified length of time during which a Colony must exist before petitioning for Charter as an Active Chapter.
